This
module of fashion practice and theory that started on the 14th of
September helped me out to learn the basic essential skills of garment
stitching. The module helped me to understand how is the research work done
before coming up with a particular theme. This module helped me explore
different aspects of basic stitching and stuff. It even thought me time
management so as to how to go hand in hand with the design process and pattern
cutting and garment stitching.
As the module developed it will became clear on how to go on with the research,
drawing and design development work hand in hand with creative pattern cutting
and final garment manufacture to produce a final three dimensional outcome.
We were required to design a capsule
collection of women’s wear based on your own concept/inspiration and research.
This collection must include top and skirt.
The design process
should be such that it should link closely to my chosen concept/
inspiration which had to
be considered throughout. The top & skirt design that was to be taken
forward to manufacture was to be produced in woven cotton fabrics only.
At the beginning we were given certain
criteria’s on which we had to do a brief research on each of them and then
based on that research my theme of corals was picked up. Later on I did a
complete research on corals searching for different kinds of corals that are
found. It was amusing to find a wide variety of corals that are available in
nature. The challenging part was to take aspects from those corals and applying
it on to my designs. Though it was a bit challenging I did enjoy it a lot as it
was amazing to know the different kinds of possibilities that I could get out
of those corals.
At the end of this module I learnt to apply technical understanding and processes in order to create garment
components, to interpret design ideas through a process of pattern
cutting and making to a final garment outcome, to relate theoretical, contextual and ethical dimensions to own
fashion design work,
to express
ideas and information in
visual, written and oral forms to peer group and tutors, to engage in collective endeavour to deliver group
presentations and
to record
and collate information from a
variety of sources to create a technical folder and design research.
Exploring these possibilities was
another challenge in it own where in I had to put in all my technical skills at
work and come out with the best way possible to justify my concept.
